Who can enrol?

If you are 16 years or older, this programme will equip you with the knowledge and skills to work effectively as an early childhood educator.

What will I learn?

Build advanced skills and knowledge in the care of infants, toddlers and young children, so you can progress your early childhood career.

You will cover:

  • NZ Early Childhood Education and Care framework – Te Whariki
  • ECE socio-cultural theories
  • Health and safety
  • First aid for young children
  • ECE legislation and regulatory requirements
  • Communication and leadership skills
  • Treaty of Waitangi and its relevance to ECE

What do I need to enrol?

It’s easy! All you need to bring along is proof of citizenship or PR. We will help you do the rest. If you are an international student, please contact us first.

What time does my course start and finish?

Your course runs from 9am until 1pm, Monday to Friday.

What does a typical day look like?

This fun and practical course will have you visiting ECE centres and enjoying visits from inspirational guest speakers. You’ll learn about everything from the NZ Early Childhood Education framework, Te Whariki to first aid for children. Plus, you’ll create amazing resources which you’ll be able to use for activities when you are on practicum.

Does the course include work experience?

Yes, you will spend two weeks working in an early childhood centre. This will be organised by Ignite Colleges.

Will you help me get a job?

Yes! As part of your course we spend time working on interview and CV skills to make sure you leave us work ready. We also bring in speakers from industry to talk to you about what today’s employers expect. As well as this, our tutors have great industry connections and can introduce you to potential employers.

What jobs can I apply for after completing this course?

This is a high-demand sector with lots of rewarding job opportunities. This qualification will enable you to work as a teacher aide in an ECE centre or apply for a role as an in-house early childhood educator.
